Time for a new planner!

Supplies

A new year is upon our doorstep, and for some people that means trying to find the right planner to start the year off right. Sometimes, it’s just not that easy if you don’t know what you’re going to need for a whole year.

There are a hell of a lot of planner communities and people out there. Wow. Instagram, Reddit and Youtube have been the best resources I found. I’ve spent plenty of time checking out reviews and opinions and ultimately when I plan, I go for what’s the easiest.

For me the weekly format has been my favorite time and again. If I can’t carry the planner with me, it’s almost pointless for me to have one. It’s about being able to reference and update on the fly. If you manage everything on your phone in a calendar app or something, that’s awesome. On the other hand, I just don’t always have my phone with me, so paper is still a manageable medium.

This is the planner I chose for next year – the Hobonichi Weeks. I’ve used the Weeks a few years now. I really loved this special edition design from the mt washi tape company. The size is close to a Pocket notebook width plus a few inches for height (similar to a long wallet size).

The fact that the planner has Japanese does not impede the usage at all. I did have to adjust to a Monday start for the monthly and weekly pages. I still prefer Sunday start overall and might consider that again for 2021.

For decoration, some folks sticker the hell out of their planners. If I have some stickers, I like to use them but just for fun little designs. My intention is to stick to highlighters and pens this coming year… and maybe some washi tape.

If you’re also looking on what’s out there, JetPens has some awesome informational videos of the products they sell. This is their latest vid that has a neat little overview of different types out there. Beware… the options can be overwhelming. 😀

I knew about washi tape for a little while. I didn’t really get it then. Not until after I really started to get into journalling again that I realized the appeal of using washi tape; a quick way to stick photos and notes or a neat way to divide space on paper.

Keeping Organized

Supplies

I went to a gaming convention recently, absolutely not intending to look or get any art supplies. Yet, there was a vendor there that was an art supply store. OMG they were selling Shinhan markers for a great price. I stood staring at the rack for at least half an hour debating what markers I already owned. I knew I had to take the opportunity to purchase some because Shinhan is harder to find in stores in my area.

Because I wasted about an hour of my life debating markers, I decided to catalogue the colors I own just in case I ever happen across another sale. Sometimes, it’s actually useful being organized.

RAH kit USA

Supplies

@radandhungry delivering from the USA. These notebooks just feel vintage. Reporter style flip with an almost leathery cover. Neat pockets that I’ll probably glue into larger notebooks for small notes. Some sweet pencils, including a jumbo!

RAH kit Chile and Korea

Supplies

Just a quick blip on some RAH kits received recently. Chile’s kit pretty cute with the “college” design. The hotness is in the pencils and the stamp.

Korea’s kit is just beautiful. That badge is money right there. The notebook is definitely in the top list, love the character on the cover.

RAH kit for France

Supplies

Another great kit from @radandhungry. I do have a previous France kit that came with a pretty folder/notebook cover that fits perfectly. Makes this kit a nice supply replenish. Love the texture of the mini notebook. Sepia tone paper works nicely with ink. Red pencil and chunky prism like pencil love!

RAH kit for Denmark

Supplies

A @radandhungry post for the art blog. I usually post to my tumblr, but I felt like I could start posting stationery reviews on this little art blog of mine.

To catch you up to date, Rad and Hungry is a little business I stumbled upon over a year ago while I was poking across the net for notebooks. I can’t remember exactly how I found it, but it has been an awesome find. Each month a kit goes out full of stationery from a specific country. This kit comes from Denmark.

The Denmark kit is by far the highest quality stuff I’ve seen (at least it’s my favourite since all kits are pretty quality). This time I put in a little extra in for the booster pack too. I’ve already received a blank and dotted notebook, so for this pack I chose to go with the lined option. The most awesomest part of this pack was the GIANT sketch pencil and the all-blank notebook. Getting these kits have made me a fan of Viking and makes the “Always Buy” list for me.

Writing it down

Supplies

What is an artist without their utensils? There are some interesting subscriptions out there and I found one that is not only useful but fun. Rad and Hungry is a neat little service that brings stationary around the world to your door every month. How could an artist not see what this is about? So far received are notebook and pen/pencil sets from Turkey and France. Along with some dividers, this will become a great project planning set! 🙂
